The aim of this article is to analyze the key aspects of strategic cooperation among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in five European countries – Poland, Spain, Romania, Italy, and Lithuania – in the context of their efforts towards green transformation and ensuring business security. The theoretical part concerns the significance of strategic alliances supporting SMEs actions towards green transformation and the impact of these alliances on business security. The empirical part consists of research conducted in 2024 among SMEs in the above-mentioned European countries, using personal interview methodology. The results of the research indicate that SMEs in the surveyed countries engage in cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, higher education institutions, research institutes, the public sector, and competitors, to achieve sustainable development goals, enhance business security, and prepare for the green transformation. This cooperation includes both innovative technological solutions, such as the transformation of production processes into more sustainable ones, and pro-ecological practices, such as recycling, CO2 emission reduction, eco-designing products, and ensuring energy efficiency. In terms of methods for establishing cooperation, businesses use a combination of formal and informal approaches. [-]
